When you have the list of books you need, check their prices at the university bookstore and then look elsewhere to see if you can find them at a lower price.

Look for used books. You can generally find lower-priced books (both new and used) online or at used book stores, who usually buy old student books at the end of the semester.

Since many teachers use the same books each semester, you can find much cheaper versions of that edition. You could even borrow the book from your college or local library.

Find an old edition. If your teacher is using a new edition of the book this semester, you may be able to use an older (and cheaper) edition of the book. Publishers usually make very few changes between each edition of the book and the only differences are the page numbers or a new section.

Ask your teacher if an older edition will pass the course before purchasing it.

When you withdraw money from your account or cash a check, be sure to withdraw enough to last the entire month. In this way, you will avoid going to the ATM several times. Because each operation has a cost, you can spend a lot of money like this.

Avoid carrying all your money with you. Just go out with what you need.

Save money on food. If you live on campus, you may very well have to buy an eating plan. If this is the case, choose the cheapest one (be honest about how many times you will eat at the cafeteria).
